And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
Romans 8.28-30
Today, my devotional reading examined Christian Huygens’ observation of two synchronized pendulum clocks. Huygens observed that even after staggering the pendulums, they were in sync again after a moment. This phenomenon became known in mechanics as entrainment.
Our bodies do this, too. Maybe you’ve noticed your steps in sync with another person when walking while in a deep conversation. Or how your breath syncs with the rhythm of a song.
Chris Tiegreen, the Salt & Light Devotional author, writes that this same “entrainment” is associated with our spiritual life. The more we follow our LORD, read Scripture, and pray, the more we find ourselves in step with God. Our patterns become like His, and our lives begin to align with the way God intended when He created us. Entrainment with God – this is awesome!
