The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirit. Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.
Proverbs 16.1-3
It’s been a little over a year since being laid off from my work as an engineer. The plans I made at the time have taken a slight detour. The economy, supply chain issues, and my indecisions have caused me to rethink plans to travel as a nomad around the country. Also, my writing discipline has waned as I attended a course in evangelism in preparation for missionary work, or at least I blame it on that.
But, looking back on this past year, I see God’s hand in my daily life. The primary lesson He taught me was “to be.” Last year I wrote about “doing” and how to have a positive motion toward the purpose God has for us, and he has shown me that movement is not always possible without rest.
Without rest, I would not have learned so much from the course, and it gave me a new perspective on mission and evangelism, teaching me that we all need to get more serious about ministering to this lost world. The LORD, over this year, led me to think less of myself and more about Him. Again, “trust” is the word of the day. I must put my trust in His hands and live confidently that the LORD has me. Lean in. Accept that every day isn’t going to be glamorous and exciting. But always know that God is with me.
